Benefits and Examples:

Partners for Work is a Rotary program that creates employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities by utilizing Rotarian business leadership as a vital link between job candidates and paid work.

Benefits to Rotarians, to people with developmental disabilities, and to the greater community:

  • Dedicated employees

  • Work gives people dignity

  • Creating paid opportunities enables this population to become tax paying citizens

  • Re-distributing work loads to create a job for someone frees up current staff to do more complex tasks = can reduce turnover

  • In some cases, employees only desire part-time employment (flexibility in workforce)

  • Hiring an employee with a developmental disability can improve teamwork and enhance work culture

  • Businesses can potentially access cost-free employment services from a supported employment provider (i.e. Recruitment, Training, On-going support as needed)

  • Employers can reduce first year taxes up to $2,400 per eligible new hire

Successful examples of District 5030 Rotarians who’ve opened their doors and become Partners:

“It’s a wonderful feeling to have – one’s workforce being enriched with a valuable employee, and at the same time one’s company enriching the community.” – Trip Hart

“All organizations have work that is either left undone or is the responsibility of a team member whose time could be more profitably spent doing other tasks.  By tailoring this work to an employee with a developmental disability, you add both economic and social value to the organization.”  - George Frasier, Executive Director of Auburn Valley YMCA & Auburn Rotarian

Another Rotarian who has made a difference in someone’s life:

“It’s so hard to find young people today who are reliable, honest, and care about their work.  It’s a win-win for us and Todd!”  -   Mike Scarff; Manager of Bowen Scarff Ford of Covington (Rotary Club of Covington)
